About Steve Wiley
Wiley Consulting Inc. (WCI), now based in Richmond, VA is solely owned and operated by Stephen Wiley. Steve began providing support to small business owners in 2005. At that time, he was working as a commercial lending officer for a local community bank. Steve realized that many of his clients were ill-prepared to deal with the administrative aspects of their companies, they had no business plan for direction and their management teams were incomplete. Just as importantly, they were unable to communicate effectively with credit providers and some were even intimidated by the process. Unfortunately, Steve was not authorized to provide that level of support to his clients in his official capacity as a loan officer. WCI was created to fill that niche and bridge the gap.
During his forty plus year career in the finance industry Steve spent many years learning every task, in each phase of the loan production system. This focused experience included working as a Senior Credit Analyst, a Level II Loan Examiner and Risk Assessor, a SBA Loan Officer and a Relationship Manager, more commonly known as a Commercial Lending Officer, during his banking career. He has also created and managed two Special Assets Departments where problem loans are re-structured or liquidated. He also served on the board of directors of a credit union for more than a decade.
Steve has also been involved with secondary market transactions, the buying and selling loans between investment companies that originated at lending institutions. He has managed teams of loan examiners and due diligence specialists in the field and has taught negotiation techniques for many years. He has provided consulting and special project work to financial institutions such as credit unions on a contract basis.
